How To Pull Off the Perfect Organic-Chic Wedding Reception

We had the pleasure of helping Sarah and Drew plan their wedding reception at Rooftop from afar. As if planning a wedding isn’t stressful enough, these two had to do it from over 1,700 miles away…in Massachusettes! From the first time we spoke with Sarah on the phone, we could tell that she was a laid-back, free spirited person who appreciated all things natural and organic. It was no surprise, then, that she decided to let that part of her personality shine through their wedding décor.

Sarah also opted to purchase our Decorating Package to help take even more stress off of the planning process. The week of the wedding, she brought by all of the décor for the reception and our team got to work!

If you’re looking for a unique, rustic and chic theme for your next event, take a page from Sarah and Drew’s reception you’ll have it made!

Centerpieces with an organic flare.
Natural Decor
Sarah’s overall color scheme was green, yellow, black and brown. What better way to tie in brown by adding some seriously-aromatic organic coffee beans and rustic, raw cotton? She brought it green and yellow with fresh flowers encased in vases full of sliced lemons and limes. All natural. All gorgeous!

Of course, no “rustic” feel is complete without some burlap, so she finished off the table décor with burlap table runners to tie in the browns and add a bit of texture to the table. It was fabulous!

Organic, Fair-Trade Favors
Chocolate-covered espresso beans
at each place setting offered a sweet touch
for the guests!
Sarah found a unique way to further keep in line with the organic-coffee-theme—by giving each guest their own little bag of chocolate covered espresso beans.

Each bag was placed with the table setting which not only made it super simple for guests to claim their favor, but also added a luxurious touch to the place-setting.

(Note to anyone reading: we always recommend dressing the place-setting as much as possible. It adds that little something extra and can make a big difference in the overall look of your event! Remember…it’s all in the details!)

Fresh, Custom Food
One of the best parts about our facility is that we use catering exclusively from Urban Crust and Urban Rio. Sarah and Drew got the best of both worlds and chose Urban Crust’s salad and pizza, and Urban Rio’s Guacamole Station.

There is no better way to support the idea of fresh, local and organic food than Urban Rio’s Guacamole Station. Guests approached Urban Rio’s Chef Attendant and were able to create their own custom guacamole appetizer! Hate tomatoes? Love garlic? Want it extra spicy? We’ve got you covered!

Urban Rio's custom guacamole station

As you can tell, we loved the organic-chic idea behind Drew and Sarah’s wedding reception, and think that everything from the custom guacamole, to the natural centerpieces, perfectly represented the Bride and Groom. To make it even better, their group sure new how to keep the party going right to the last song of the night!

Congratulations Sarah and Drew! We wish you a lifetime of laughter, love and happiness!

T’s Grad Party: A Celebration that Won’t Soon be Forgotten

Things we loved!!

We’re always scouring the event industry to find the coolest and most hip things to offer to guests at parties and Tevaun’s Graduation Party on June 26 had no shortage of “cool.” We had the pleasure of partnering with Ebony Peoples from Ebony Peoples Events & Design for T’s Grad Party and, man, did she pull out all of the stops! Tevaun’s Grad Party transformed Rooftop into a full-on teen club, complete with paprazzi, VIP lounge, killer DJ and more! There were so many cool aspects to celebrate T’s high school graduation, but here are some of our favorites:

A GRAND Entrance
What’s more “Hollywood” than paparazzi?  As soon as guests arrived at Rooftop, they walked a red carpet and had their photo taken in front of a step & repeat with the party’s logo. This larger-than-life step & repeat paired with the photographers created the ambiance of a true “it” club and the guests felt like celebrities.

Graffiti Wall
Hands down, the coolest part of T’s Grad Party was the Graffiti Wall from Air Graffiti Dallas. Think about the coolest photo booth you’ve seen, then multiply it by about 100 and you’ve got the Graffiti Wall.

This over-the-top photo booth combines a traditional green screen photo booth and takes it to the next level by letting you graffiti your own photos! Guests stood in front of the green screen for their photos, which was instantly transferred to a full-sized screen that used infared technology “spray cans” to draw on the photos. Guests could choose their paint color and shape as well as pick cool treatments like neon, stamps and stencils! Once the guests were done creating their artwork, the photos printed out in about 7 seconds. So cool!

We set up the Graffiti Wall in our north break out space, which provided the perfect amount of space for the activity and was still in close proximity to all the other things going on at the party.

All of the guests had so much fun customizing their photos, and it provided a really cool favor to take home. The Graffiti Wall would be great at any celebration, from weddings to corporate events!

Lounge
An easy way to transform the look and feel of an event is by adding cool furniture. Ebony enlisted DFW Lounge Rentals to provide the chic lounge furniture for the party, along with some awesome LED side tables. The lounge furniture spread throughout the space, including the VIP area, along with the cocktail tables provided by Rooftop truly gave the party that “club” feel.

Here's some other photos of the event, and congrats to T! We hope you love UNT!

The Bayat Wedding: The Perfect Vintage Wedding Reception

Things we loved!

We all know that websites, like Pinterest, have spurred a serious “vintage” style trend for weddings and other events alike. No one has pulled off the “homemade, vintage” feel as well as our previous client, Melanie. Her gorgeous wedding reception was dripping with vintage, rustic and romantic details!

As soon as we met with Melanie and she began telling her vision for her big day, it was clear that she was going to take the vintage & handmade theme to the next level. Here are some things we saw and loved at the Melanie and Robert’s Wedding:

Everything Homemade.

Melanie took to Etsy to help create her perfect, vintage themed wedding reception. If you haven’t ventured into all the glory that is Etsy, you are missing out! It is easily the best one-stop-shop for all things vintage and handmade.  Melanie added the homemade touch to everything from the vintage-inspired thank you cards on each table to the custom quilted pennant banners for the guest book and gift tables. All of the custom décor items really provided a way for Melanie and Robert to put a touch of personality on every single detail of the reception and it was beautiful!

Photos, Photos, Photos!

If a picture can speak a thousand words, Melanie and Robert’s entire love story was written throughout their wedding reception and it was a beautiful story! Having been a couple for many years, they had photos on display from their younger years and through their relationship to the present, and we must say, there is no such thing as too many photos. They utilized Rooftop’s cook-top cover to display a creative gallery-style timeline of photos throughout their relationship and we couldn’t get enough. Not only was it a great use of the space, but it also gave the wedding guests a glimpse into the couple’s everyday life.

Congraulations Robert and Melanie, and thank you for sharing your special day with us! Cheers to the happy couple!

Things We Learned at the McIntyre/Johnson Wedding

We have had many past clients take our rooftop venue and completely transform all of the décor into something totally different, but we don’t think anyone has ever made it look the way Deidra McIntyre did for her wedding on Sunday, May 24, 2014.

The moment we first met Deidra and began talking about her big day, we knew that she was unique and had a very distinct vision for her wedding. We were so excited to help bring her dream wedding day come to life! She envisioned a whimsical, romantic wedding day, and with the help of some fantastic vendors, she got just that. Here are some things we learned at the McIntyre/Johnson Wedding:

Unconventional/Non-Traditional Ceremony Backdrops are the Next Big Thing
Deidra used some amazing faux hedges paired with a paper-flower wall to serve as the backdrop for the ceremony and it was gorgeous! Emily at Propmaker Event Rentals fastened her custom faux hedges to a full-length paper-flower wall that Deidra actually made herself. (We love our crafty clients!) Once the hedges were fastened to the paper flowers, Emily took additional paper flowers and butterflies and wove them throughout the hedges, along with hanging candles. Talk about whimsical!

A Little Draping Goes a Long Way
We’ve had several past clients opt to hang items like paper lanterns or lights from our ceiling to create some ambiance, and it’s always a success. Deidra took that idea to the next level and brought it sheer, white, silk draping to hang in the main reception room. It completely changed the look and feel of the space and was fabulous! QuestDrape brought in a very simple set up: four ceiling drapes, and two door drapes to lead into the space for the buffet. The basket-weave-style draping created the perfect amount of romance for the event.

Delicious Favors Will Never Disappoint
There are plenty of amazing favors to send home with your guests, but we think there’s something to be said about favors that are not only visually appealing, but also pleasing to the tummy. Deidra enlisted the help of POParella’s Gourmet Pop Corn and CakePop Shoppe to create some delicious treats for her guests to take with them. Included with the popcorn and cake pop bar was an adorable sign that read, “Life is Salty, Love is Sweet, enjoy some of our favorite Treats!” Such a cute way to incorporate the couple’s favorite things while also providing a favor for the guests!

Less Isn’t Always More
There are plenty of design magazines that will say that for every “busy” item you have,
décor-wise, there should be something more simply to balance it out and we agree with that, to some degree. Deidra, on the other hand, threw that idea out the window and followed her heart and vision for the décor for her big day, and it was perfect. From the textured linens to the mercury glass vases to the oversized flower arrangements, everything was romantic and glam, just like Deidra. As far as which design tecnique is better, we can’t tell. What we do know is that when you are following your heart, you can never go wrong.

Congratulations Deidra and Mark! Your wedding was gorgeous and we wish you a lifetime of happiness!
